SURF
REPORTS - TAURANGA, NEW ZEALAND
|
The
Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service is situated approximately
20 minutes from Tauranga in the sunny Bay of Plenty. Our clubhouse
is at the base of Mauao on the "Mounts" main beach
where lifeguards are responsible for patrolling 10 kilometres
of coastline. It started in 1929 with a few young adventurers,
some wooden planks and a surf reel and line rescue.... for
more than 75 years the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service has
been a loyal part of the Tauranga City Community. To become
a lifeguard requires a number of skills and attributes, most
important of which are a positive outlook and a ‘can
do' attitude! There are some specific requirements such as
the ability to swim well, but these can be developed along
with your surf lifeguard instructor, as they lead you through
your Surf Lifeguard Award – the minimum requirement
to patrol New Zealand beach’s. |

ZEALAND SURF REPORTS
Apart
from tsunamis, the only thing that produces
waves is the wind blowing over the sea surface.
Waves arriving on a coast called windsea can
be generated by local wind. Groundswell can
be the result of a wind that blew over the
surface of the ocean thousands of kilometres
