Whangarei
is New Zealands northern-most city.The Whangarei Town
Basin has yachts from around the world mooring here to
soak up the semi tropical climate and explore the stunning
coastline of Northland. Whangarei is famous for the brilliant
diving at the Poor Knights Islands. Whangarei
is the gateway to the Bay of Islands. It has a wide variety
of shops and services, with a small modern cinema complex,
opera and drama theatres. The development of the Whangarei
Town Basin has brought an international flavour to the
city with yachts from around the world mooring here to
soak up the semi tropical climate and explore the stunning
coastline of Northland, the white sandy beaches at Ruakaka,
Whangarei Heads, beautiful Matapouri Bay, Whale and Sandy
Bays. Whangarei is famous for the brilliant diving at
the Poor Knights Islands which are situated 12 miles off
the coast at Tutukaka.

Clocks
Claphams Clocks - The National Clock Museum is a
unique visitor attraction presenting one of the largest
collections of clocks in the southern hemisphere, established
in the 1940's by Whangarei resident Archibald Clapham.
Come "face to face" with these amazing timepieces,
hear the unique chimes and cuckoos whilst learning about
the international history of clock making. This is an
educational and entertaining experience for the whole
family. |

Zion
Wildlife Gardens
The park like environment provides
a sanctuary to some of the world's rarest big cats and
allows you a unique chance to learn about these magnificent
endangered animals. The
wildlife gardens currently has a collection of 39 cats
consisting of Barbary and White Lions, Royal White and
Orange Bengal tigers, at times some very cute cubs,
two Serval cats, two Cheetahs, a Black Leopard and special
honorary members to the Zion family Foxy the Baboon,
Osti and Rich the ostriches and some deer. |
